I got to know about TravelTriangle through the internet. The Ever Growing Living Root Bridges, Meghalaya – A Nature’s Marvel In The Northeast
Initially, we were looking at a trip to Bhutan, but as the land packages offers didn’t suit us, we thought of exploring a relatively new destination within India. I went for Meghalaya trip plan because it is renowned for its greenery and unspoilt landscape. Since we were passing through Assam, we got our package modified to fit in a day at Kaziranga national park.
Breakfast and dinner was included in the package. The breakfast and dinner served at restaurants was really good. However, for one night the dinner in Cherrapunji was given very late and it was not nice. The only negative point of our trip. Rest of our Meghalaya tour plan was extremely great.
Places to Visit on Meghalaya Trip
It was my first ever trip to North East and being with my wife, I wanted to explore every bit of it. Here is how I made my trip memorable.
Seeing the Rhinos in Kaziranga
Arrived in Guwahati from Chennai. Driver was present to pick us up. Slight bit of a language barrier was there as the driver didn’t know English and my hindi was pretty much broken. We traveled to Kaziranga, and during the journey we stopped at a Balaji temple, (a completely unexpected thing to see in Assam) took blessings from there, and proceeded towards the national park. Had lunch on the journey and arrived in Kaziranga late afternoon.

We went for the Jeep safari in Kaziranga which was amazing. Saw the tiger, elephant, and the rhino! After a few hours we returned to the hotel which was literally in the wild. A property located in the middle of the dense forest, where the rooms were clean and comfortable.

Moving into the heart of Meghalaya
We planned to do the elephant safari the next morning, but we were too tired to wake up so early. We checked out of the hotel, and then proceeded to Shillong. Our next hotel was in the middle of the city, as we wanted to explore Shillong with ease. The hotel was again really good, and the food was perfect. We did some sightseeing in the evening and then returned to the hotel in a few hours. We decided to go to bed early that night, as it was another day we spent in transit.
An Epic Adventure Trip To Meghalaya With Friends
Visiting Asia’s cleanest village
The next day after breakfast, we traveled to Dawki. On our way to Dawki we made a few stops along the way. First up, we visited the elephant falls near shillong which was very scenic and beautiful.
Best Landscapes In India: Surreal To The Core!
Next, we stopped at a village named Mawlynnong which has been given the title of Asia’s cleanest village. Even the Chalo Hoppo guys (our travel agency with whom we got the package) recommended that we make a short stop at this place. We roamed around the village, visited a thousand year-old tree root bridge. The experience at this village was really amazing, and it felt like a completely different place altogether.
After getting done here, we went onwards to Dawki which was supposed to be a short 12 km ride, but because of the terrible condition of the roads, it took us longer than usual. The driver took us to the India-Bangladesh border where we took a few snaps with the Indian and Bangladeshi soldiers.
Afterwards, we went to our resort to Langkawet- the retreat; our resort for the night. The place was amazing, as it gave us the feel of right in the middle of mother nature. If we opened our door, we could see a fantastic view of the mountains and green trees all around us. The place only had five beautifully crafted cottages and was owned by a very humble and inspirational guy named Victor. He welcomed us very nicely, talked to us during our entire stay, and told us a lot about how this place came into existence.
An interesting thing happened when I was booking our trip, John from Chalo Hoppo offered us this property, and when I researched about it, I didn’t wanna stay there. I was concerned about our security in this remote place. However, John managed to convinced me to take this resort and I’m thankful he changed my mind.
Cherrapunji- The wettest place in the world
We left for Cherrapunji in the morning. On the way, we stopped at multiple places where the view was excellent to enjoy and click pictures. We were lucky that there was no rain in Cherrapunji on that day. We got a good view of all the major waterfalls like seven sister falls, and other sightseeing places. We also went to Dainthlen falls, which for my wife, was her favorite. This added to our romantic Meghalaya travel experience.

Sightseeing in Shillong
We woke up to heavy rain, just as we had last seen when we slept last night. After breakfast, we headed back to Shillong. On our return to Shillong, we chose a homestay. Having experienced four and five-star hotels previously in Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia, we wanted to give a break to being spoilt by luxury. We went to the Don Bosco museum, had lunch, and came back to the hotel.

10 Lesser Heard Wonders Of India You Never Knew Existed
We checked out of Shillong, and started our journey back to Guwahati. Once we arrived, we did some sightseeing by checking out the local markets, visiting the botanical gardens, and the planetarium. We checked into another guesthouse/homestay called Aashirwaad Guesthouse. The rooms were neat and clean, and the food served to us was delicious and reminded us of food cooked in our own home.
Farewell North-east
The next day, we had breakfast and got transferred to the airport. We took our flight from Guwahati airport and straighaway flew back to Chennai.
A trip that I felt was more than what it was worth on TravelTriangle. All of the experiences were of top quality. The people of Meghalaya made my wife and I feel very welcome in an otherwise unknown destination for us. Certainly, after this trip we both made a promise to each other to explore more of North-east together.
