With the help of the state government, the people of Manikavu successfully restored the equilibrium of nature and set an example for the world making the region of Manikavu, a zero-carbon footprint area.
Trees of different species including Vateria indica (Sarja), Vateria macrocarpa, Calophyllum inophyllum (Punnag/Champa), Hopea parviflora (Malabar Ironwood), Hopea ponga (kambakam), Stereospermum colais (Trumpet Flower or Yellow Snake Tree), Butea monosperma (Dhak or Bastard Teak), Syzigium travanvoricum (a rare plum) and Kingiodendron pinnatum (Malabar Mahogany) as well as bamboo saplings on four acres of land on an experimental basis.
