In the Kotgarh forest division lies the Tani Jubbar Lake. Tani Jubbar Lake is approximately 70 km from Shimla, the erstwhile summer capital of British India, towards Thanedhar, Kotgarh. This destination is also accessible by bus, as Narkanda Bus Station is only 10 km away.

The nearest railway station is Shimla Railway Station, located about 76 km from the town of Narkanda. The nearest airport is Shimla Airport, also known as Jubbarhatti Airport. This airport connects Shimla to Amritsar, Delhi, and Dharamshala via the aerial route. Helicopter services can also be availed of alongside this airport.

This lake is situated at 2350 m to 2400 m above sea level. The average temperature is 21º C during the summer, while in winter, it can dip to 2º C.

Organized by the Gram Panchayat of Jarol, Kotgarh The Tani Jubbar Fair is held annually at the Tani Jubbar Lake between 28th and 30th May.

One can spend the day relishing juicy jalebis, watermelons, and ice candies and frolicking around till the local deity arrives in the afternoon. One can soak in the high vibrational energy of the event and ride the swings and mini Ferris wheels. Then comes the most awaited moment, the arrival of the Deota (the local deity), a mesmerising sight. Locals carry the local deity on his rath (chariot) to the main ground preceded by the baja (local drums). The whole place is filled with an air of vibrancy and divinity. Later the nati (Local Dance) is performed. Everybody can be seen joining in irrespective of the cast and social standing. There’s an influx of devotees and visitors.

Narkanda’s Hatu Peak near Tani Jubbar Lake

Narkanda is a town in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is at an elevation of 2708 meters on the Hindustan-Tibet Road (NH 5) within a fir (abies pindrow) forest. It is about 60 km away from Shimla and is surrounded by the Himalayan Range.
