Mu Ko Ang Thong National Park is a marine national park located in the Gulf of Thailand at the shore of Surat Thani Province and it consists of 42 islands that covers a total of 18 km out of the total 102 km which is the total area of the park, it was established in 12 November 1980 and is registered as a Ramsar site by the Ramsar Convention and hence is recognized as an important wetland.

Flora And Fauna In Mu Ko Ang Thong National Park
Some of the flora include Barrington fusiformis, Calophyllum inophyllum, Thespesia populnea, Dracaena Loureiri, Morinda sp, Thong Lady’s Slipper Orchid which is a species only found in this park and many more. Fauna in these islands are rather limited to 50 species of birds, 14 reptiles, 16 mammals, and 5 amphibian species. These include creatures such as sea turtles and pythons.

Best time To Visit Mu Ko Ang Thong National Park
The Ang Thong National Park experiences strong winds during November and December hence it is closed during these months, the seas are calm and the weather hot and perfect between the months of February and October which would be an ideal time for a visit to the park. We suggest you to avoid the park in January as it is overcrowded.

How To Reach Mu Ko Ang Thong National Park
You can book a tour through several boat companies from Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, Park rangers control the access to the parks and it costs INR 662/- per person (non-Thai visitor), you can go to the park either on a ferry or rent a speedboat for 30 people which is faster though a bit more expensive. Always be sure to book your tours though a certified agent.

1. Wua Ta Lap: Check out the view
This viewpoint is one of the famous attractions of the park, it takes about 30 minutes to trek this 500m steep trail but the view from the top is absolutely amazing as you get a panoramic view of the national park. This island also known as the mother island is where the famous emerald later is located and where the movie “The Beach” by Alex Garland was shot, the lake itself is surrounded with limestone cliffs and connected to the sea through underwater caves, there are also kayaking and swimming spots and white beaches.

4. Ko Sam Sao: Go camping
This island has several beaches, coral reefs and also a camping ground where you can pitch a tent and camp, tents can be rented from the headquarters on Ko Wua Ta Lap. This island also has a natural stone bridge that curves out into the sea and some hiking grounds.
