Exploring the culture and relishing the diverse landscape of Kerala, Sagar’s account of Kerala will leave you spellbound and completely hooked to the idea of going on a 5 night/6 day romantic trip to Kerala. Sagar booked a package via TravelTriangle for INR 24,500 which included their breakfast, accommodation, transfers and sightseeing.

Quite recently, one of my friends had a very pleasant experience travelling to Kerala with TravelTriangle. He recommended me to go for the same.

I downloaded the TravelTriangle mobile app and promptly made an enquiry for a romantic trip to Kerala for my wife and I. A representative from TravelTriangle soon got back to me to understand my requirements for the trip, so that my package can be customized and modified according to my needs. Afterwards, I was linked to various travel agents who started sending me varied quotes for the trip.

I found the best quotation with a competitive price given by ‘Book It Forget It’ travel agency. The booking process with TravelTriangle went down very smoothly and just like that we were ready to leave with our bags packed.

Day 1: Arrival in Cochin

We took our flight from Pune around 12 in the noon and reached Kochi by 1:30pm. Upon arrival, our taxi driver was present to pick us up and take us to Munnar. En route, we had planned some stops for sightseeing.

We first stopped on our way to watch some waterfalls and then eventually had lunch at a local restaurant. Next stop was a spice garden. Over there I felt fascinated by seeing how chocolate was made from beans off the cocoa trees. It was very interesting to see different kinds of spices which we’ve only tasted in real life but not seen how they are actually grown and cultivated.

Around 7 pm in the evening, we reached Munnar. We checked into the Bella Vista Hotel and immediately had dinner after settling in for the night.

Day 2: Munnar Sightseeing

Mattupetty Lake, Munnar

We woke up early morning to have a healthy breakfast. Afterwards, our driver was present to drive us to the Rose Gardens in Munnar. Surprisingly, there were a lot more than just roses being grown in the garden which made the place all the more beautiful.

After having delicious local cuisine at a restaurant for lunch, we proceeded to Mattupetty Dam for boating. Finding ourselves surrounded with lush-green hills and a fully blossoming landscape, we were in awe with the environmental beauty of the place. We finished boating in Mattupetty Dam  and our sightseeing ended at around 5 pm.

In the evening, we went to the local market to have some dinner. Later on at around 9pm, we proceeded back to the hotel and called it a night.

Day 3: Thekkady Safari

The next day, we checked out of Munnar early in the morning and headed towards Thekkady. But before we arrived in Thekkady, we had planned a jungle safari in Periyar Wildlife Reserve.

Our safari was very scenic and beautiful despite us not having the luck of seeing any rare animals such as the tiger. However, this did not deter us from enjoying the green landscape and wilderness we drove into.

Traditional Kathakali Dance in Kerala

After spending 4 hours in the jungle safari, we returned to our start point where our driver was waiting for us. On our way to Thekkady we still had a little bit of time to sneak in a small visit to a Tea Gardens.

Later in the evening, we checked into Seasons Hotel in Thekkady. We were advised to visit the local cultural performance of the Kathakali dance which was happening tonight. It was a very a vibrant atmosphere at the cultural center which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Day 4: Backwaters of Alleppey

After breakfast, we checked out of Thekkady and proceeded towards Alleppey. The driver took us through a different route other than highway which was beautiful and little with small and unspoilt villages.

We reached Alleppey at around 2pm and immediately checked into the houseboat we had booked for the night. My wife and I were really excited spending a night in a boat in such a beautiful place. The staff on the boat cooked fresh meals for us as we headed down all the main backwaters.

Our day ended on a note of leisure and comfort as we relaxed soaked in the experience living life on a boat.

Day 5: Kumarakom and Kochi

Boat ride in Kumarakom

After having breakfast on the houseboat, we were dropped off back at the starting point where our taxi was waiting for us to take us to Kochi.

After some consultation with the driver, we decided to go to Kumarakom for a quick half day tour before checking into the hotel we had booked in Kochi. We started off the tour with paying a quick visit to the bird sanctuary and following that with more boating in which we went to remote villages which were only accessible by boat.

Onam in Kochi

We reached the hotel in Kochi at 7 pm. We quickly freshened up and got ready to go out and explore the markets of Kochi. As we walked into the market, we realised that the festivities and preparations for Onam were in full swing.

It was probably one of the best things we did on our trip by accident. Seeing the festivities, colour and life in the markets really made our day. After having dinner in the local market, we went back to the hotel and retired for the night.

Day 6: Departure

The final day of our adventure in Kerala was upon us. Of our leftover time in the morning, we decided to do some shopping for our family and bringing home some local souvenirs and delicacies.

We were dropped off at the hotel by our driver at 2pm and from there on we took our flight back to Pune at 3.30pm.

To experience so much in such a small time frame and still being left with a feeling of wanting to see more can only happen in Kerala. My wife and I surely feel that we would be more than happy to return to Kerala in the near future and see what else it has to offer.
