The highest point around the Nuwara Eliya hills, the Shanthipura village is considered to be the highest village in the entire region of North East Sri Lanka. Located at a height of 7339 ft, the village rests upon the Kikiliyamana Mountain road. The Shanthipura View Point is on the 5th highest mountain in Sri Lanka, the Kikiliyamana mountain. The Shanthipura View Point came into existence as late as 1963. It was the brainchild of T William Fernando, who was the then mayor of Nuwara Eliya.

The Shanthipura View Point is at a distance of 2 km from the main city. If you take the Kandy Nuwara Eliya road, it is just 7.9 km towards the Kandy side, if you are traveling from Nuwara Eliya. After a certain point, you have to cut away from the main road and climb up a hill instead. There are signboards along the road that mark the spot. You should communicate with locals for further clarity on the directions, as Maps may be unreliable. The place is accessible by road, you can either drive or hire a private taxi. No buses go in the area due to narrow, winding roads.

From the Shanthipura View Point, you can see the entire town of Nuwara Eliya. The Shanthipura View Point Place is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. It may be closed on Wednesdays. Once you visit the viewpoint, you will have to pay for a ticket to access it. The ticket prices change according to the season and generally range between 100 LKR and 200 LKR. You will be directed through the top of a roof to enjoy the best vantage point, giving you access to a 360-degree field of vision.

Make sure you plan your visit keeping the weather conditions in mind. Avoid going on a misty day or when there are low-hanging clouds. Likewise, avoid going during the rain. The entire picturesque view gets hidden, hindering your vision. Make sure to visit early on a sunny day to best experience the Shanthipura View Point. It is best to visit between November and April. The Shanthipura View Point is close to many great tourist attractions. Some of the nearby attractions include the Hakgala Botanical Garden, Moon Plains, Lover’s Leap Waterfall, Adam’s Peak, and the Horton Plains National Park. The Hakgala Botanical Garden is one of the 5 botanical gardens in Sri Lanka. It is the second-largest botanical garden and promotes cinchona cultivation.
