At the time of Independence (1947), Kausani was located in the district of Almora, after which Bageshwar was established. On 9th November, Uttarakhand was made a state. Rudradhari Falls – Rudradhari Falls is situated on Almora Road near Kantali Village, about 12 km away from Kausani. It is located on nature’s lap with beautiful, green paddy fields and comes down in an awesome sparkling waterfall. You can view this waterfall while trekking towards the Adi Kailash region. This site is also very famous for its caves. There is Someshvar Temple just by the caves and people believe that it has some connection to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva as the name also means Rudra – Shiva. It is one of the most significant lakes in the Kumaon region. This lunar-shaped lake was formed due to a depression in the town of Nainital due to the movements of tectonic plates. Its source of water is the fresh streams from the high peaks of the Himalayas. Naini Lake is surrounded by three peaks, Naini Peak, Tiffin Top and some snow-covered peaks on the north. The word Naina symbolises Devi Sati’s eyes. Believers say that the eyes from the dead body of Sati were dismembered during an angry Tandav by Lord Shiva and fell in Nainital, which is named Naina Devi Temple. Devotees often frequent this temple and take offerings and prasad from their homes or nearby shops for the goddess. On one side of the temple, there are various idols of Lord Hanuman and Ganesha. Inside the temple, devotees receive darshan of three more deities.
