Singapore is officially known as the Republic of Singapore or Republik Singapura in Malay. Located in Southeast Asia, Singapore is referred to as a ‘city-state’ as it is both a city and a state at the same time. The territory of the country consists of 63 islands from which one is the main island. The main island is known as Pulau Ujongalong and the other 62 are small islets. Jurong Island, Pulau Tekong, Pulau Ubin and Sentosa are the biggest among these small islands. The country has invested in merging some islands to form larger land surfaces and make it more productive. Bukit Timah Hill is the highest natural point in Singapore located at a height of 163.63 m (537 ft).

Singapore is a country that has mixed ethnic groups with a fusion of various cultures, religion, and communities. The culture has been influenced by Chinese, Indian, Malay and European cultures and this influence is evident in its daily life. English, Malay, Mandarin Chinese, and Tamil are the four major languages spoken in Singapore. You would find a reflection of this cultural diversity in the traditional cuisines that are popular here and also in major festivals that are celebrated in the country. Buddhism is the most widely practiced religion in Singapore, with about 33 percent of the resident population following this faith. Christianity is the second most practiced religion followed by Islam, Taoism, and Hinduism.
