Kabini National Park was a hunting hub for the British rulers, Mysore Maharaja, and Indian royalty at one time. You can spot various animals at the Kabini National Park, from the mighty Bengal Tigers to the regal Asiatic elephants. The elusive lone black panther, adoringly named Saya or ‘the ghost of Kabini’, has been spotted by excited wildlife aficionados and photographers several times. Other animals you spot at the national park include gaurs, civets, grey langurs, leopards, ussuri dhole, sambar deer, giant Indian flying squirrels, antelopes, bears, wild boars, and sloths at the national park.
The park is home to more than 250 bird species, which you can witness during the summer. Many migratory birds frequent the Kabini backwaters. You can see the white ibis, Malabar Grey Hornbill, white-backed vulture, red-headed vulture, blue-winged parakeet, Nilgiri Wood pigeon, and many more. The Kabini National Park is home to a large number of reptiles too. The park’s flora includes cotton, teak, sandalwood, crocodile bark, Kadam, and Indian Kino trees. 1. Minibus Safari

One of the entrance gates of the National Park is the Veeranahosahalli which is close to Hunsur on the North side. If you want a minibus safari, this is the gate that you need to reach after booking your tickets. The minibus safari takes one hour, and you can spot a range of flora and fauna. 2. Jeep Safari

You need to report to the Nachi or Veeranahosahalli gates. You can choose Zone A and Zone B for a jeep safari. You will pass through the lush and dense forest area in Zone A. You can spot animals casually strolling, sleeping, fighting, eating, or hunting. In Zone B, you will pass near the Kabini backwaters. You can spot animals that come to the water, such as elephants, tigers, and birds. The jeep safari takes two hours.
3. Boat Safari

Also known as the Kabini Backwaters Forest Safari, Karnataka’s Forest Department conducts this safari in the Kabini River. It takes over two hours, and you can spot the animals that come to the river to quench their thirst. You will spot snakes, deer, cranes, crocodiles, elephants, cormorants, darters, and more. The boat safari is unavailable during summer as the water level is shallow, and the waters overflow during the rainy season.

The booking process depends on whether you are staying at a resort or hotel near the national park or have just come for a day tour. If you are staying in Kabini, you can book through the hotel or resort you are staying at. Some resorts, such as Jungle Lodges & Resorts, include the jeep safari price when you stay at their property. Otherwise, you can purchase the safari tickets at the national park’s entry gate.
Entry fee: INR 50 per person for Indian citizens, INR 1500 per person for foreign nationals/tourists
Bus safari fee: INR 700 per person for Indian citizens, INR 1200 per person for foreign nationals/tourists
Jeep safari fee: INR 2,242 per person, an additional INR 500 fee for a camera above 200m, an additional fee of INR 1000 for a video camera
Boat safari fee: Charges vary depending on nationals/tourists and weekday/weekend

No private vehicle is allowed in the national park, so booking a safari (bus/jeep/boat) is a must if you want to visit the park. Here is a breakdown of Kabini National Park timings and safari timings.

As the forests dry during this time, you have a better chance of a sighting. Elephants are mostly sighted here during this time as they come in herds.
