This was a much awaited honeymoon trip since I had been busy with international assignments post our marriage. And since my wife absolutely loves traveling, this trip just had to be perfect! Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is an absolute delight for wildlife photographers and nature lovers. But the most delightful of experience within the park itself is that of the boat ride. Boating on Periyar Lake gives one an opportunity to be spot prominent wildlife from a close range, especially water birds, and also revel in the unmatched scenic beauty of Periyar. The most charming beaches in Kerala are those at Kovalam. We absolutely loved hanging out on the golden sands of the Kovalam beach. After lazying around on that beach during the day, we enjoyed a sumptuous candlelight dinner on it at night, the memories of which we’ll cherish forever! Other than candlelight dinners, Kovalam beaches are also the perfect place to try activities like horse-riding and watersports like jet skiing, swimming, and parasailing.
Tip: Don’t forget to try boating in Kovalam backwaters amidst mangrove forests on your Kerala honeymoon.
Savour the local cuisines of Kerala
There’s a reason Kerala tops the list of all seafood lovers! The most delicious dishes of Kerala are usually a blend of elements like coconut milk, rice, seafood, and spices. While our favourite dish was Fried Fish, the food didn’t really disappoint us anywhere on our trip to Kerala.
We simply sought a jovial combination of adventurous activities, natural beauty, cruising, boat stay, and hill station on our Kerala honeymoon trip. We ended up getting a lot more than that!

Tips to future travelers:
- Don’t stay on a houseboat overnight. Just take a short day tour
- If the driver tries to convince you endlessly to visit a particular place, it’s usually for his commission purpose. So be firm on where you wish to go
- Bargain well for all activities like boating, houseboat tour, elephant ride, etc
