Formerly known as Cat Nang, this island was renamed after a Russian astronaut, Gherman Titov, who first visited Ha Long Bay in 1962. Gherman Titov is well-known for being the second man to orbit Earth using the spaceship Vostok 2.
In 1905, it also gained the name “cemetery island” because of a shipwreck in the sea. All the people who died in it were buried here, so local people started calling it the “cemetery island.”
